My copyeditor has asked me, quite rightly, to fix a few repetitious words/phrases in Gray Places of which I am overly fond. She just writes “Repetition,” very politely.
The word “repetition” is repetitious. R-E-P-E-T-I-T-I-O-U-S. The e-p-e! The t-i-t interlaced with the i-t-i! It’s repetitively repetitious!
Is that onomatopoeia? Now I have semantic satiation. It’s possible I’ve had too much coffee today.
